Mets Sign Scott Atchison to a Minor League Deal

the RHP Atchison pitched 51 1/3 innings for Boston last season, with and ERA of 1.58.  Regularly he probably would have made decent money after a season like this, but he is 36 years old and he also missed two months with a torn elbow ligament, which he had surgery to repair.  Atchison has a 3.48 career ERA in 155 major league games over six seasons.  If he makes the team out of Spring Training the deal is worth $750K, with incentives (according to Rob Bradford a RedSox beat writer for WEEI).

I think if he is healthy enough to be consistent he could be a real solid addition to the bullpen.  The Mets have no real veteran presence in the bullpen and with Atchison’s good career numbers he could be great.  He also can pitch to lefties as last year he kept them to a .188 BAA.  As a fan i hope he and Pedro Feliciano make the team out of Spring Training so we can have some veterans in the pen along with the young arms of Parnell, Edgin, Carson, Familia etc… along with the pathetic mess that is Frank Francisco.
